Neil Brown is the CEO of ArchCo Residential, a multifamily development company which he founded in 2013 to pursue multifamily development opportunities in select markets across the United States. He has 40 years of business experience and has been developing apartment communities for more than 33 years.

In January 1996, Mr. Brown joined Security Capital Atlantic which, in 1998, merged with Security Capital Pacific to form Archstone. Serving in various roles with Archstone during his career, Mr. Brown eventually became Chief Development Officer, a position he held until Archstone was acquired by Equity Residential and AvalonBay Communities in 2013. In his role as Chief Development Officer, Mr. Brown oversaw Archstone’s development activities throughout the country. During his 17 year tenure with Archstone, the company completed the development of $6.0 billion of apartments, representing more than 43,000 apartments. At the time of Archstone’s acquisition, under Mr. Brown’s leadership, the company had grown its development pipeline to $5.75 billion. At Archstone, Mr. Brown served on the company’s Executive Committee and on its Investment Committee.

Before joining Archstone, Mr. Brown opened the first JPI office outside of Texas, in Boca Raton, Florida and served as its Regional Vice President and Regional Partner with responsibility for all of JPI’s development activity in Florida. Prior to JPI, Mr. Brown was a partner with Trammell Crow Residential in south Florida.

Mr. Brown served four years as an officer in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Captain before leaving the Army to attend Harvard Business School where he earned his MBA. Mr. Brown also holds a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering with High Honor from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Mr. Brown is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), served as vice-chairman of the ULI Multifamily Blue Council, and is active as a member of the Multifamily Leadership Board of the National Association of Home Builders. Additionally, he formerly served on the Board of Directors of the National Multi-Housing Council and has been an invited speaker at numerous multifamily industry events.  Mr. Brown also served as an independent director on the Board of Directors of ESH Hospitality, Inc. until its purchase by Blackstone and Starwood in 2021.(NYSE: STAY) Mr. Brown is also a member of the Advisory Board for Save Giraffes Now, an organization dedicated to saving giraffes from extinction.
